Favre is one of the greatest qb's ever....but how dumb was his toss up? its explainable during the course of the season, but when the game is on the line, how does he just toss it up on 1st and 10???

Identity....it's easy for us to sit here and say what a stupid play it was. But if you watch the replay, it was just a split second decision. He was about to get sacked, and I think he just wanted to get rid of it. I believe he intentionally underthrew it thinking that possibly his player was the only one that could possibly get to it. Has everyone forgotten so soon what Favre has done in this league?

Listen, this is nothing new. He is soooo overrated. He makes moronic dumbass plays all the time and everybody seems to ignore it. He has alot of talent and is a very good quaterback, no question. But I cant call him an all time great because he makes idiotic play after idiotic play. I have seen him blow at least two games this year by making just idiotic throws when the game is on the line. As a matter of fact, he does it constantly. You can almost count on it. I really think that he is stupid.

A very good QB but makes way too many retarded mistakes that cost his team the game to be considered one of the great ones.

hache...given the circumstances, first and 10, overtime in the playoffs, he sees sacks coming all the time, does he always throw it upp for grabs? no, definitely not when the game is on the line. very very poor judgment.

have to agree with almly. favre will occasionally make the great plays (he used to make them a lot more often) but he also takes too many chances and makes a lot of mistakes. the public is so in love with him because he is a likeable guy and used to be the best quarterback in the league. he best days are long behind him and his physical skills can no longer make up for his over-agressiveness.

i don't think he is stupid though...i think he is overconfident.

Unreal....absolutely unreal.....I have been a Brett Favre hater for years, since my team, Tampa Bay, played in his division for most of Favre's career, and I tired of watching him put on shows most QB's could not against my team and others......But, to see so many tonight say that Favre is overrated, etc. etc. etc........is obviously absurd. No offense intended...honest...but some of you must not have been watching this game for very long. Yes.....he's aging.......and?.....Look how far he took them this year.....is that a failure?.......Cmon guys...

hache, the term "overrated" is a relative one. if favre is rated the best qb in the league, then yes, i think he is overrated. i think he was the best about 6 or 7 years ago.

if favre is rated in the top 10 qbs, i would say he would not be overrated.

i did not use the term overrated in my post. i just think his best days are behind him and he is now much more prone to make bad decisions and/or plays that hurt his team. he did that today and i have seen him do that more and more each year.

In my opinion this is the difference between intelligent people and not so intelligent people. First of all, I didnt say he was a faliure necessarily. What I am saying is that he makes absolute ignorant plays that clearly have cost his teams the game many times in his career.

Also, he has a very good offense to work with.
Guys that dont take an intellectual approach are the ones that let the ESPN clowns think for them. He has very good receivers, a very good backfield, and a Pro Bowl caliber tight end with a decent offensive line. The ESPN guys and all the other meatheads doing the Fox and CBS shows make it sound like he is a one man show. But the fact is that he is not. You really could use a clue.

Favre has always made moronic plays but one must remember...he is a gun slinger, and innocent people get hit by stray bullets all the time. Payton Manning is the darling of the league right now, but people seem to forget he damn near led the league in piks a few seasons back and was partially responsible for the firing of Jim Mora. Great players take great chances and sometimes get burned. Shouldnt have had to go OT in the first place...Hopefully Shermans contract wont be renewed whenever it is up.

hache, a lot of times they are talking about what favre used to be or what his reputation is. now, that rep is based on years of stellar play but, those years are in the past. i'd still take favre over most qbs in the league but he is not what he was.

i think if you polled nba players about michael jordan in 1998 or 1999, they'd all say they are in awe of him, etc. but, everyone knows he was never the same guy after he retired in 1993.

I know what you mean blue, but even up in the offshore section people were saying he is "overrated". Its a tricky word, because someone should specify if they mean overrted....at this very moment.....or his whole career.....Im pretty sure one or two said he's been overrated. Still......6th best passer rating in the league is overrated? Taking your team to the 2nd round of the playoffs is overrated? Its not like Favre has a solid defense like Philly has who should really get the credit for their success, not McNabb.

You guys can make all the excuses for him that you want. Yes he has done alot of good things.
However, whats it all for if he turns around and throws the game away on an idiotic decision.

There is nobody in the league who does it as often as he does. Its an obvious pattern. I'm not talking about just getting picked off. I'm talking about HORRIBLE throws when the game is on the line. A countless number of times. He essentially erases all of the good things he has done when he does that on a consistent basis. And its without a question a consistent thing.

I didnt have a feel for that game. I only play on games that I have a solid feeling about. I have solid feelings about both games next week.
I'm all in.

First of all everyone should know that Favre is not the same Favre as years passed, obviously he got old and that happens. Consistently all year long and especially the playoffs he just throws the ball up for grabs and his recievers seem to always come down with it. He wasn't doing anything different on that play then he did before on Javon Walker's catch in the second half (I think his only catch for the game actually). He did it all last week against Seattle and his recievers made a play on the ball. So Favre didn't do anything stupid on that interception he just did the same thing he's been doing for the last 3 games now. I think Walker was so good at the jump ball because he played at FSU and thats all Chris Rix does. Throw the ball up in the air you either get a big play or a pick. Favre was great in his day but I'm tired of watching him. I noticed it when he made that stupid pass against the bears a few weeks ago. He was going to get sacked so he just threw it up and the Bears DB took in for 6.

Totally agree. Been watching Favre and his Harry Hi School antics for 15 yrs. He DOES have a strong arm, not as much as he used to tho. But he`s always relied on that and that alone to get him thru, oh and the infantile picture he has of himself as some kind of John Wayne like figure. I look at him as the Pete Rose of football, a basicly stupid person gifted w/great athletic talent. We have a QB here in MN w/the same arm strength and the body to go with it. But unfortunately for Daunte when they were giving out brains he thought they said trains and left.

you guys crack me up. Favre is one the greatest qb's of all time. everyone makes mistakes. He's the most durable QB ever and one of the best passer's around. Led the league with 32 td's this year, had 65% completions. Football is a team sport. The team in 96 blew this one away. Favre did cost them the game yes, but so did some of the coaching moves the packers made during the game. Comparing Brett Favre to Pete Rose? Doesn't even make sense. I believe Favre can still win another Super Bowl before he retires and if he does you guys are the same people who'll be talking about how great he is if that happens.
